Barbara Mae Dantzler

Barbara Mae Dantzler, age 90, departed this life on December 7, 2022 at Holy Cross Hospital in Germantown, Maryland.

Born May 20, 1932, Barbara was the daughter of Marion and Rubye Surret of Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by her son Andrew Alan Dantzler. She is survived by her sons Stephen Taft Dantzler and Mark W. Dantzler (and wife Cindy), daughters Barbara Roane Dantzler and Kathryn E. Payne, daughter-in law Erin Dantzler, three grandsons, a granddaughter, several step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Barbara was a graduate of Dreher High School of Columbia, S.C. Class of 1950, held a B.S. in Psychology, a Master of Education and a Masters in Community Counseling from the University of Maryland. Barbara had started college at the University of S.C. where she met her future husband. After marriage in 1954, she moved with him to Montgomery County, Maryland where she later completed her education and resided for the rest of her life. Barbara was a homemaker, a teaching assistant, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist in the State of Maryland. She had also worked for the Department of Health.

Artistically inclined, Barbara enjoyed painting. She also possessed a keen talent for grammar and had an extensive vocabulary that added to her enjoyment of crossword and word puzzles.

For many years, Barbara volunteered with the movie group at Parkview (at Asbury Village) selecting and providing the weekly movie. She was a Methodist and also attended the Bible Studies there.
