Mrs. Beatrice Bowie of Germantown, Maryland was born in Kumasi, Ghana on October 31, 1951. She migrated to the United States in 1974. She lived in Washington D.C., where she met and married her loving and devoted husband Mr. Charles Thomas Bowie in 1983. He stood by her through thick and thin until she took her last breath on January 23, 2020 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital at age 68. She was volunteer at the Shady Grove Medical Center and a facilitator of the Sickle Cell patients support group.
Bea was a Sickle Cell Disease Warrior and Patient Advocate at the NIH, an institution she loved. Her work was recognized by Director Collins who appointed her to the Clinical Center Research Hospital Board as a Patient Advocate The SCD community knows the hard work and perseverance she put into her advocacy work for Sickle Cell Patients all over the world. She was an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with and she will be greatly missed. Please remember her husband Chuck, Sisters, Brothers, Nieces, Nephews and a host of cousins in the U.S., Ghana and Europe in your prayers. Internment is at St Paul’s Rock Creek Church Cemetery 201 Allison Street NW Washington DC 20011 on March 14, 2020 at 12 noon, Church Service and repast follows immediately
