On Friday, October 4, 2019, Charles Bertram Brinkman, known to family and friends as Charlie, completed his earthly journey at the age of 79 and is now in the arms of his loving Savior. He was born October 8, 1939, in Batavia, NY, to Charles Franklin and Vivian (nee Coulter) Brinkman. In 1962 he married Louise (nee Kent) Brinkman. He is survived by four children: Charles “Chuck” (Donna) Brinkman of Daleville, VA, Karen (Gilson) Silva of Gaithersburg, MD, Daniel (Jaime) Brinkman of Mechanicsville, VA, and Rebecca (Dave) McGaffin of Germantown, MD. He is the grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 2. He is the brother of Mary (Gordon) English of Batavia, NY. Following his graduation from the University of Rochester, Charlie was commissioned in the US Navy and served for 7 years in the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Service. Upon separation in 1970 from the US Navy, he went on to work in the Nuclear Energy Industry for over 40 years.
Charlie placed a high priority on spending time with his family, this included seasons of coaching, attending their events and delighting in their accomplishments. He loved spending summertime at a lake in the Adirondacks surrounded by his family. Cutting down trees, sailing and waterskiing were some of his favorite pastimes. He was involved in many ministry opportunities at Redland Baptist Church including mission trips to the Dominican Republic and the Kairos prison ministry. Charlie expressed many times that he would most like to be known as a Christ follower.
