Albert William Litschgi passed away Tuesday April 21, 2015 of natural causes. Albert Litschgi, a decorated Military veteran, was a native Washingtonian born on December 5, 1918, to St John and Clara Litschgi. Albert graduated from St John's College High School Cadet Corps in 1936. Albert attended and graduated from Georgetown University with a BSSS degree in 1940. During his college years, Albert actively participated in the CMTC (Civilian Military Training Corp). He was drafted in 1941 and served as an enlisted serviceman in the Coastal Artillery and Provisional Tank Destroyer units and received his commission to the rank of Second Lieutenant at Ft Mammoth, NJ (Class #3). In the Second World War he commanded Signal Radio Intelligence (SRI) Units in the European theater of operation. Albert received advanced intelligence and communication training from Oxford in England 1942-1943. Having participated in Operations Fortitude and Quicksilver, Albert deployed to France in late June to join the 3RD Army. Following WWII Albert served as personnel officer in various Signal Corp. training camps, attended the advanced Signal Corp. officer's class at Ft. Mammoth and the Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas.

While stationed in Caracas, Venezuela, Albert met Mary Jane McCarthy and they were married on June 19, 1954. During their married life they were stationed all over the world (Ft. Bragg, Ft. Lee, Ft. Huachuca, Italy, Vietnam, Okinawa, and Washington DC - Pentagon). Albert rose to the rank of Colonel and retired from active service in 1975 after 34 years of service. His post military career involved senior level assignments with the Defense Communication Agency (DCA) and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Albert was an active participant in local Fairfax City politics, regularly addressing the city council specializing in the review of the city's annual budget. He served on the Board of Architectural Review and Planning Commission, organized neighborhood watches and was a long time member of the Fairfax City Police Chief's Citizens' Advisory Council. Albert worked tirelessly to make sure both police and fire services received the funding needed to serve the community.

Albert was pre-deceased (Sept 11, 2014) by his wife of 60 years Mary Jane. Albert is survived by his sister Elizabeth Genger, son Kevin, daughter Kathleen, son Timothy, daughter in-law Janice, granddaughters Jessica and Veronica.

Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. 22211 at 1:00 pm. We ask the guests arrive 30 minutes prior to ceremony, meeting at the Administration Building.
