Delores Del Metoyer Finister was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She died on June 24, 2024 at the age of 86.
Delores, nicknamed “Tootsie”, was the second of seven children and the oldest girl born to Herbert Metoyer and Ruby (Randle) Metoyer on November 8, 1937 in Oakdale, Louisiana. They say she was the size of a coke bottle and her father held her in one hand. Watch out world, don’t be deceived.
After graduating from Allen High in 1955, she studied Home Economics at Southern University where she was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. She received her B. S. in 1959.
One Sunday in church, dressed in pink from head to toe, she caught the eye of one William Finister of Alexandria, Louisiana. They eventually married and were together through thick and thin for 60 years. They had two daughters Melanye Duschene and Millicent Dionne.
Delores started her work life as a school teacher and went onto build a career as a federal government employee at the Department of Health and Human Services. Always a hard worker, she had a successful second career as a real estate agent for Long and Foster Realty. She also ran a catering business as well as being a Managed Health Care consultant.
A talented seamstress and culinary wizard, she loved designer clothes and stylish hats. She was intelligent, hardworking and absolutely glamorous. She enjoyed the best life had to offer including fancy cars, expensive shoes, fried bologna sandwiches on white bread with Miracle Whip and her favorite Andre Strawberry Moscato. “Don’t give me anything that says Brut or Extra Dry!” She loved to dance and hated caviar.
In her later years she suffered from a plethora of illnesses that contributed to her eventual demise.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Finister, her daughters Melanye Duschene Finister and Millicent Finister Souser, her grandchildren Adam Randle Ingram, Elise Sarah Ingram, Brandon William Souser, Ryan David Souser, her siblings Fay Terry, Rita Metoyer, Manley Metoyer, Brenda Metoyer and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Ruby Metoyer and her brothers Bryford Glenn Metoyer and Herbert Rufus Metoyer, Jr. They are all waiting to receive her at heaven’s door.
