On Saturday April 15th, 2023, Hossein Mehraban passed away with his family by his side at age 80. He was born on June 13th,1942 in Shiraz, Iran. Beloved husband of Mahbobehe Fayz, Father of Farhad, Shirin, Khosrow Mehraban, and Reza Pezeshki and grandfather of Arash Mehraban, Sofia and Emilia Pezeshki. Brother of Parvin, Hassan, Abbas, Zahra, and Hamid Mehraban.
He was a professor at University of Shiraz and pioneer of classical music, who educated and mentored the current masters of contemporary music of Iran. Utilizing his PHD in classical music education, experience as performer at Chicago Opera house, and his masters in psychology, he implemented a foundation that later on became the framework for music therapy nationwide in Iran. His contributions during his service at Hafez Psychiatric hospital in Shiraz as a music therapist proved to be the most effective treatment for individuals with disabilities of all sorts. His love of music and tradition, guided him to publish his PHD thesis on the folkloric music and games of the province of Fars, which has over 2,000 years of history going back to the Persian empire.
The funeral Service will be held privately at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road, Germantown, MD 20876, on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 12:30. The memorial service will be for everyone at Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center, 9751 Washingtonian Boulevard, Gaithersburg, MD 20878, Lakeside Ballroom, on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm.
