Kathryn Krone Broderick

1928 - 2024

Kathryn Krone Broderick died peacefully on Monday at the age of 95, after a long life and many well-battled illnesses. She recovered from surgery after surgery, relearning to walk and remaining aware of politics, Supreme Court headlines, and tornadoes in her native Midwest to her very last days.

Kathryn was born and raised on the family farm in Perry County Illinois, studied art at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and used her quick wit and perseverance to learn drafting and proofreading while raising two children as a single parent in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Her ability to sew her own clothes and make salami from scratch was always an inspiration. In later years she lived with family in Southern California; retired to Tucson, Arizona to a world and a landscape that had always called to her; and moved to Maryland in 2015 for family support.

She is survived by her children, Mark Broderick of Tucson and Tracey Broderick of Silver Spring, Maryland, and her grandchildren, Jesse Broderick-Sokol and Ben Broderick-Sokol of Silver Spring.

Her memory will be preserved in the mountains outside Tucson, Arizona, where her remains will mix with the wind and the sky and her soul will be at home in her beloved mountains.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of our loved one on this dedicated webpage. Your condolences, stories, and pictures will be cherished by the family and will provide comfort during this difficult time.
