Khai Manh Phi, 82 years of age, passed away in Germantown, MD, surrounded by his loving family on September 29, 2023. Khai was born on October 20, 1940 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Khai was Chief of General Surgery at Second Field Hospital and Acting Director of Kontum Hospital in Kontum, Vietnam until 1975. Between 1969 and 1974, Khai earned the distinguished military Bravery Act Bronze and Silver Honor Medals and the Human Life Saving Bravery Act Honor Medal. He married Hanh Thi Nguyen in 1969. Together with their four children, they lived and traveled throughout Vietnam typical of a military family. They left Vietnam in 1979 and immigrated to the United States of America in 1980. Khai and his family settled in Maryland ever since. Khai enjoyed working for the Food and Drug Administration until his retirement.
Khai had a love for reading and writing poetry to include ballads.
Khai is survived by his wife Hanh, daughter Thuy, son Nhat, daughter Anh, and son Minh, sons in-law Lou and Matthew, daughter in-law Minh Thy, grandchildren Madison, Chase, Grant, Priscilla, and Ken.
