It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leo Eugene Sauer, a distinguished former FBI agent and US Marine Veteran, on Thursday, January 24, 2024, at the age of 100. Leo departed this world at his home in Gaithersburg, MD.

Born in Washington, DC, on March 1, 1923, Leo was the son of the late Eugene C. and Bertha (nee deCraene) Sauer. Leo served his country honorably as a US Marine before embarking on a remarkable career as an FBI agent. His dedication and commitment to service were evident throughout his life.

Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Sauer, and his daughter, Lynn "DeeDee" Sauer. He is survived by his loving sons Mark (Mary Ann) Sauer of Ft. Myers, FL, Daniel (Laura) Sauer of Bethesda, MD, and Paul (Olga) Sauer of Cape Coral, FL. Leo also took on the role of a loving step-father to Kim Wiklund (Caroline Ferree) of Towson, MD, Erik Wiklund of Sarasota, FL, and John Wiklund (Abraham Walker) of Silver Spring, MD. Leo will be remembered as an adoring step-grandfather to Simone Walker-Wiklund of Silver Spring, MD, and Alexandra Sanafeeva of Japan. In addition to his family, Leo leaves behind a legacy of dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice.
