1954 - 2021
Rebecca left this world on the morning of Friday February 19th 2021, just two days after her 67th birthday. She died peacefully at her home in Laurel, Maryland, with her husband Charles by her side. During Her five year battle with cancer she had a great three and a half years with the cancer in remission. The cancer was detected again in August of 2020. She endured chemotherapy for a second time from September 2020 through January 2021.
Rebecca Jean Johnson was born in Montgomery, West Virginia on Wednesday February 17th 1954 to William Harvey Johnson and Janet Viretta (Myers) Johnson. Her parents and her brother, Larry Thomas Wiseman, predeceased her. She leaves behind her husband Charles Emory Packett and their sons Alexander Eli Packett and Nicholas Elliott Packett. Her surviving brothers and sisters are Anna Louise Johnson, John William Johnson, Pamela Sue (Johnson) Fitzpatrick, Esther Jeanette Johnson and Mark Anthony Johnson. There are a great number of nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly.
Rebecca, also known as Becky, R. J. as well as Buckaroo, relocated to Arlington, Virginia in the autumn of 1967 where she attended Wakefield High School. Graduating with honors in 1972, she received a full scholarship to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Leaving University, she entered the work force in Washington D.C. She worked at a couple of businesses before she started her career at The Mayflower a premier hotel in Washington, D.C. She started at The Mayflower on November 21st 1977 and worked her way up to sales manager, selling blocks of rooms for the hotel. Rebecca ended her career with Marriott International in 2013.
For those of you who loved Rebecca, think about how much she loved the beach, any beach with her toes in the sand, but especially Ocean City, Maryland. It was in Ocean City, Maryland that Rebecca and Charles had their first date on Thursday July 7th 1983 at BJ’s on the Water. They went on to get engaged in Paris, France in the spring of 1985 and then married on October 12th 1985 at Montpelier Mansion in Laurel, Maryland. Rebecca certainly had a life full of joy and a great, great deal of love.

A memorial for Rebecca is planned for 1:00 PM April 17th 2021 (Rain date April 18th) at Cedar Ridge Community Church located at 2410 Spencerville Road (RT 198), Spencerville, Maryland. We will meet at the children’s playground located to the left of the church. This will take place outdoors so dress accordingly and wear a mask. If possible please bring a lawn chair. Any questions, please contact Charles at chaspack3@yahoo.com (301)776-3757.
