Reggie Taeil Kim

Reggie T. Kim, age 45, Pentagon Police Lieutenant, with his loving wife by his side, passed away following a battle with a grave illness; End of watch December 26, 2021, Rockville, Maryland. Born to serve May 18, 1976, in South Korea. At the age of six, he spent his childhood years in California. Beloved husband of 15 amazing years to Gia L. Kim; devoted son-in-law of Song Kwon and the late Jung Kwon; dear brother of Eun Sook and the late Tae Hoon (Sang Kum, survived); fond brother-in-law of Chi Kwon (Min Park); also survived by cherished nieces, nephews, a grand-nephew, adored friends, brave colleagues and his biological mother, Jung Ja (the late Kyu) Kim. Visitation, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 6:00 pm until start of Funeral at 7:00 pm at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 18901 Waring Station Rd, Germantown, MD 20874, in honor of Lt. Kim’s final wishes and his unwavering passion for the ocean, his cremated remains will be placed in the sea to eternally reconnect his strong bonds to the water.
Lt. Reggie Kim joined the U.S. Navy immediately following high school graduation. Throughout his eight years in the military he traveled all over the world. Lt. Kim was honorably discharged from the military following his service as a petty officer second class (E-5), military police officer and a US Navy Surface Rescue Swimmers swimmer.

Lt. Reggie T. Kim joined the Pentagon Force Protection agency as a police officer in 2009, was promoted to Sergeant in 2012, then to Lieutenant in 2014. He proudly served our Nation and took his Oath to heart. Lt. Kim was loyal to his job and country. His work was not just a paycheck. He lived and breathed his occupation and devoted his life to the job by always going that extra mile. He was a man you could perpetually depend on and in-turn was well respected by his colleagues. He observed the world around him; sympathetic and caring, you could count on him to never complain and nor would any negativity around him waver his positive outlook on life. With his bright outlook on life one could always depend on him for an empathetic ear and fair advice. Reggie was a great listener.

His reliability was not only for his job. Anyone could count on him to always lend a hand and his continued loyalty. He was active in the National Asian Peace Officers' Association-Northeastern Chapter and the Asian Law Enforcement Association-National Capitol Region.

Lt. Kim was very fun. He was known for his quick witted humor and charm. He gave his dear wife, Gia, 100% of his love and compassion. Whenever Gia was introduced to one of Lt. Kim's friends or colleagues they would always mention how they had heard so much about her. Lt. Kim was a very devoted husband who would always put Gia's needs before his own.

Gia and Reggie loved to travel together. Although Reggie's personality was laid back, he was always on the move. He loved the great outdoors and would go on hikes and walks with his wife. Reggie appreciated mountains and was especially fond of the ocean, of course.

Reggie enjoyed life. Being a big "foodie", the travels with his wife would also include trying new cuisines and eating out. Reggie especially loved tacos, Korean BBQ and noodles. Not only did he enjoy going out to sample all sorts of foods, he also could be found acting as Gia’s personal chef. Reggie loved to cook, but please do not expect him to follow a recipe. His delicious creations, especially those of pastas and meats, were not your typical dish. Each of his entrees had a special Reggie flair. He would add his own special style to each of his meals making it stand out to something incredible you’ve never tasted. He had a passion for the Raiders and had recently purchased tickets to see them in their new stadium. Sadly he had become too ill to make the game. If you are looking for him at a family event, you can always find him behind the lens of a camera. He enjoyed taking pictures at outings and gatherings. We will miss his warm smile, his charismatic personality and sincere charm. May his memory be a blessing forever.
