Sharon Schliebe Helms
Sharon Schliebe Helms, 82, passed away early in the morning of November 9, 2021. She suffered from advanced dementia and was under the care of Montgomery Hospice and the Loving Hands Assisted Living facility.
Sharon was born in St. Louis, MO on November 11, 1938. She graduated from Valparaiso University in 1960 with a degree in music education. She also earned a MA degree in music education from the California State University at Los Angeles. She taught music in elementary schools in Littleton, Colorado and later in Los Angeles. In between, she spent a year each in Seoul, South Korea and in Mainz, Germany teaching in the Department of Defense school systems. She directed church choirs in Los Angeles and Silver Spring, MD and played the flute in the Rockville Concert Band for over 40 years as well as teaching flute to private students. She enjoyed traveling and playing tennis and was the captain of her tennis team in Montgomery County Maryland.
She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Helms, daughters Elissa Helms and Julianne Favin, and three grandsons, Charlie and Joseph Favin and Edgar Mesman Helms.
A memorial service for Sharon will be held at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, 15300 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 16. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Montgomery Hospice (1355 Piccard Dr., S 100, Rockville, MD 20850) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
