Tiwanda Blanche Young was born in Detroit, MI to Clementine Buford and Jerome
Young on October 19, 1980.

Graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing. In a recent interview on the podcast
http://youtube.com/@OnTheAirSickledYouTube Tiwanda stated that she, “chose
to pursue a degree in nursing for two reasons, one was watching my mother work
as a Registered Nurse and obtain a master’s degree in public health nursing. The
second because I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease at three months of age,
and I met so many great nurses and doctors while growing up who took great care
of me.”
Tiwanda moved to Germantown, MD in 2021, where she lived before passing.
Tiwanda had many interests. Soon after moving to Germantown, she joined the
Restored Toastmasters, which is one of the International Toastmasters clubs.
Tiwanda served as President of the Restored Toastmasters from 2022 to 2023 and

highly regarded Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy program with the 3 rd highest grade,
she is also a member of Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Inc., and was recently named co-
host of the podcast, On The Air Sickled. Tiwanda also enjoyed journaling, fashion,
meetups, painting, and spending time with her family.
Tiwanda was a kind and genuine person who loved her family and friends and
constantly sought after a close relationship with God. She loved to shop, and her
favorite color was pink. Almost everything in her house and items she bought, had
to be mostly pink.
Tiwanda lived with Sickle Cell Disease, type SS for 42 years. Youngest of six
children she is survived by her parents and her siblings: Anthony Buford, Marcel
Buford, Rechelle Buford, Jonathan Buford, Henry van den Akker, her niece, Jessica
