Virginia (Ginny) Holborow was born in Elkins, West Virginia, and was the youngest of six children. She was always full of energy, and she loved to sing, play games, golf, and garden. She especially loved to work puzzles the last few years of her life.
Ginny was an educator her entire career after receiving her bachelor’s degree from Davis & Elkins College in 1952. She taught in Elkins, New Foundland, and Florida before landing in Montgomery County, Maryland. She taught business subjects at Walter Johnson, Whitman, Montgomery College, and finished off her career at Wootton High School. The skills that she taught enabled thousands of students to secure their first jobs. Ginny truly loved being a teacher and was always willing to go the extra mile for both her students and her schools. She assisted as school treasurer, ran the school store, and served as an advisor for many clubs and after-school organizations.
Virginia demonstrated her leadership skills while serving as the President of the Maryland Business Teachers Association. She believed in a life of service and volunteered at Church, the Chevy Chase Women’s Club, DAR, and Chi Omega. Ginny was one of the first women members of Rotary International and she was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Ginny lived overseas in Newfoundland as a young woman in her 20s. She later lived in Spain with George and Jeanne. The Holborows explored many European countries and had countless adventures in Ginny’s green Buick. She loved to shop, and she enjoyed the department stores and outdoor markets in Madrid. The Prado Art Gallery was another favorite haunt. Ginny and George continued to enjoy overseas adventures; she especially enjoyed their trips to Egypt, Greece, Peru, and Spain.
Ginny passed away on May 28, 2021 and is survived by her husband George, daughter Jeanne, son-in-law Ralph, and grandchildren, Sabrina and Wesley.
In remembrance of Ginny’s life, the family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to Davis & Elkins College, Attn. Wendy Morgan, 100 College Drive, Elkins WV 26241.
