Xavier Lynn Gomila

Xavier Lynn Gomila, age 79, died Thursday, January 6, 2022, while well cared for at The Village at Rockville, Rockville, MD, of complications due to Dementia. He was born November 3, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana and was preceded in death by his parents Francis Xavier Gomila and Antonia Marie Velcich Gomila-Favre, his stepdad Irvin Favre (called Pops) and his brother-in-law Gil George Gonsoulin.
Known as Lynn, he is survived by his devoted and much-loved wife of 54 years, Gail Gonsoulin Gomila, his beloved twin daughters Mandy Gomila Croushore (Ted) and Sandy Gomila French (Hunter, Jr.), his precious grandchildren: Emma, Molly and Ryan Croushore and Soren and Hunter French III. They called him PawPaw. He is also survived by his Faith-filled and revered sister, Sr. Judith Gomila, MSC, his cherished sister-in-law, Sydney Gonsoulin and many other relatives in Louisiana and around the country.
Educated in New Orleans, Lynn graduated from St. Mary of the Angels Elementary School, St. Aloysius High School, and he attended Louisiana State University New Orleans (LSUNO) before joining the U.S. Navy. He was proud of earning his “Dolphins” -- the insignia that allowed him to serve on submarines. After four years of service on a submarine and then a surface ship, he was honorably discharged.
Over the years, Lynn was employed in Louisiana, Maryland and Virginia as a sought-after and respected colleague at IBM, GE, Lockheed Martin, and various consulting companies, most often, for his expertise as a Master of Systems Programming. During his long career, he received many awards citing his skill, his dedication to his work and his commitment to his clients’ success.
Appreciated for his dry sense of humor and his quick wit, Lynn was often the catalyst for laughter among his family and friends. At various times he enjoyed hobbies like travel, running, chess, bowling, photography, the challenge of fixing things, playing poker, going to movies, wine tasing and learning about wines. But some would say, his favorite hobby was making Gail happy.
Lynn’s quiet strength, integrity, kindness, humor, love and devotion to his family, and loyalty to his friends made him a man of many desirable qualities; a man who will be loved and missed forever by those who knew him.
Per his wishes, and with the help of Thibadeau Mortuary Services in Gaithersburg, MD, his body was cremated. Later this year, the family will travel to New Orleans where a funeral Mass and burial will be handled by Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in the family crypt at Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans.
